TOPEKA—The Kansas District Judges Association recently elected officers to serve the organization for the coming year during an annual statewide conference for judges.

District Judge Cheryl Rios was elected president of the organization, which is open to all state district court judges. She serves in the 3rd Judicial District, which is Shawnee County.

Rios was appointed to the district court bench in 2008. She is a graduate of Washburn University School of Law.

“It is absolutely my honor to serve as president for the next year,” Rios said. “I am most grateful for the trust my colleagues placed in me.”

Rios succeeds District Judge Brenda Cameron, who serves in the 10th Judicial District, which is Johnson County.

“As a board member and more recently as president, Judge Cameron, along with others, stepped up to meet the challenges that faced our courts and our judges,” Rios said. “I thank all our current and past association members for their ongoing commitment and service. Each one plays a vital role in ensuring the strength and integrity of our courts.”

Other officers elected were:

  • District Judge Bradley Ambrosier, president-elect. He serves in the 26th Judicial District, which is composed of Grant, Haskell, Morton, Seward, Stanton, and Stevens counties.

  • District Judge Delia York, secretary. She serves in the 29th Judicial District, which is Wyandotte County.

  • District Judge Grant Bannister, treasurer. He serves in the 21st Judicial District, which is composed of Clay and Riley counties.
