TOPEKA — The Kansas District Magistrate Judges Association recently elected its officers for 2025 during an annual statewide conference for judges.
 
District Magistrate Judge Regine Thompson was re-elected to a second term as president. She serves in Republic County of the 12th Judicial District.
 
Thompson has served as a district magistrate judge since 2020. She earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland and law degree from George Washington University Law School. Before becoming a district magistrate judge, Thompson practiced law for 23 years with her husband at Thompson & Thompson, P.A., in Scandia.
 
"I'm honored I can continue to serve as president of this outstanding organization for another year," Thomspon said. "I look forward to representing my fellow magistrate judges who fill a vital role in our state courts."
 
Other officers re-elected were:

  • District Magistrate Judge Rebecca Stewart, first vice president. She serves in Chautauqua County of the 14th Judicial District.

  • District Magistrate Judge Ronald Sylvester, second vice president. He serves in Kingman County of the 30th Judicial District.

  • District Magistrate Judge John McEntee, third vice president. He serves in Johnson County, which is the 10th Judicial District.

  • District Magistrate Judge Shannon Schmidt, secretary. She serves in Smith County of the 17th Judicial District.

  • District Magistrate Judge Scott McPherson, treasurer. He serves in Harper County of the 30th Judicial District.

Elected to serve as members at large were:

  • District Magistrate Judge Curtis Sample, northeast. He serves in Johnson County, which is the 10th Judicial District.

  • District Magistrate Judge David Maslen, southeast. He serves in Cowley County of the 19th Judicial District.

  • District Magistrate Judge Richard Ress, northwest. He serves in Thomas County of the 15th Judicial District.

  • District Magistrate Judge Christopher Velez, southwest. He serves in Hamilton County of the 25th Judicial District.
